The 2018 midterm elections are now just months ago and the End Citizens United PAC has fired the first shots across the bow of Republican politicians who are known for accepting major financial donations for their election campaigns. End Citizens United President, Tiffany Muller revealed the list of the 20 conservative politicians who have taken the money of major political billionaire donors as they seek to influence the way the policies of both political parties are formed in the coming years; the reason for targeting Republicans has been explained by Tiffany Muller as being a result of Democrats being more open to making a change to the Citizens United Supreme Court decision of 2010.
Initially formed in 2015 to raise awareness of the problem of big money in the U.S. political landscape, End Citizens United has become a major force after the 2016 Presidential election showed the number of those concerned about the influence of billionaire donors continues to rise. The 2010 Supreme Court decision has continued to be important for many as donors such as the Koch Brothers are pushing forward a political agenda of their own through the promise of a high level of financial support for various conservative candidates in each election cycle.
Having grown to include more than three million members, End Citizens United is now one of the most important and feared PAC’s in the U.S. political environment with a large amount of power among Democrat and independent voters. The success shown by End Citizens United in raising more than $25 million prior to the 2016 Presidential elections has given the group the confidence to position itself against some of the most powerful Republicans in Washington D.C. The “Big Money 20” list revealed from the headquarters of End Citizens United in Washington D.C. is headed by two of the most famous conservatives on Capitol Hill; Texas Senator Ted Cruz and House Speaker Ted Ryan of Wisconsin have both been named to the list of top targets End Citizens United will be looking to remove from office during the 2018 midterm election cycle according to usatoday.com.
One of the main priorities for End Citizens United is to ensure the number of independent voters who hear their message about removing big money from politics is heard in a positive light. Despite the success achieved during the 2016 election cycle, End Citizens United trialed a number of ways of looking for support for Democrat candidates among independent voters who responded positively to the message of financial reform spearheaded by Democrats which will form the basis of the election messages pushed forward in 2018.
